Past two days have been adding the 2:35:1 Format Widescreen Bars to the visuals of the film.
Took out a one minute scene in "Mr. Mullen" due to grain issues on the camera. It was a scene where Chris' character talks to the Mayor's daughters friend, Danelle. Something just didn't seem right after viewing the footage as far as the quality of the shot and the shot following the scene before that scene, worked very well and added to the mood of the film rather than if we had a scene between the scenes - so ultimately I think it worked out best to not have the scene in there. Those are the choices you'll have to make as a filmmaker when making films.
For "Loss of Hope" there was a lot of dialogue that was taken out due to length issues. Also, there was so much to pick from and I wanted to focus on the nuclear war aspect and less on aspects of the seasons (there was dialogue where Paul reflects on "ice cold lemonade" and summer and fall moments but it didn't fit in the context of the final edit).
The hardest decision is to figure out what film to make next. I have this script that Charles Mundt (writer whom I met in 2005) and I worked on a few years back that I'm re-writing now and touching up, and that might be a fun little short film to shoot that sort of a drama mixed in with some horror. I need to find the right topic to touch on with this film. I don't want to just make a film with no message, so I'm brainstorming ideas in my head and have some possibilites such as truths about society and maybe some world issues. I want Chiko Mendez to play the role of a rapist who is on the run from the authorities and comes upon a camping site where Chris and his daughter are staying for a weekend trip. Just have to find the right mixture of tone and message.
